Great Cycle Challenge

Great Cycle Challenge – Kickoff is May 26!

On Thursday, May 26 at 11:00 am, 6th and 7th grade students at SCCS will be presented an opportunity to take a leadership role in our society’s fight against childhood cancer. Laura Sobiech, Community Outreach Coordinator with Children’s Cancer Research Fund (CCRF), will be making a short presentation to the students  of the reality of childhood cancer and the hope that each of us can bring to those children and their families. CCRF is launching its first-ever Great Cycle Challenge USA in June 2016. CCRF has named Danny Valerius a team captain, and all members of our local St. Croix Valley community  are invited to join Danny’s team. SCCS 6th and 7th graders will play a special role however:  they are invited to bring their bikes to school on Thursday, May 26 to help kick off the Great Cycle Challenge locally.  (Bikes can be dropped off at the gym door and stored in the gym for the day.)  After Mrs. Sobiech’s brief presentation at 11:00 am, 6th and 7th grade students will be invited to the back parking lot of the school to demonstrate their commitment to CCRF’s fight against childhood cancer by logging the first ½ mile of their month-long cycling goal—with Danny in the lead!

Also on Thursday, a flyer will be sent home with youngest in family inviting all families to participate

This summer - anyone of any fitness level can make a commitment to join the Great Cycle Challenge!  What a wonderful way to start the summer:  fresh air, exercise, and the joy of contributing to something greater than oneself.  Simply set a distance goal for the month of June 2016, track your progress, and ask family and friends to donate to CCRF in response to your personal commitment and to our united effort to fight childhood cancer.   You can track via an online app or manual entry.  Very simple! Mrs. Sobiech is providing a flyer with more information at Thursday’s presentation.  In the meantime, you may learn more about this effort at:  childrenscancer.org.  Proceeds support CCRF’s research work.
