Thanks to our Maestra de Español, Emma Garcia, and our 8th Grade Spanish students for this magnificent ofrenda!
Ofrendas are central to the celebration of Day of the Dead, a holiday that in Mexico and elsewhere is associated with the Catholic celebrations of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day. Although this celebration is associated with the dead, it is not sad or depressing, but rather a time full of life, happiness, color, food, family, and fun. Mexicans see this as a very important holiday, as it shows the celebration of the life cycle. Be sure to click on all of the photos to get a full understanding of the meaning behind all of the elements in the ofrenda. Gracias, Maestra Garcia!
